Matthew 25 Project Calls for Volunteers to Help Feed Schoolchildren in Rynfield

Supporting Vulnerable Learners Through Community Action

The Matthew 25 Project, a non-profit organisation based in Rynfield, continues to make a meaningful impact in the local community by providing nutritious school lunches to children in need. According to an original press release published on 25 September 2025, the organisation is calling on community members to volunteer and help sustain this vital initiative.

Since 2018, the Matthew 25 Project has been preparing and delivering nearly 2,000 sandwiches every week to learners at Chief Albert Luthuli Primary School 2, ensuring children have access to a balanced meal during the school day.

Feeding Nearly 1,000 Children Twice a Week

As outlined in the press release, volunteers currently prepare 990 sandwiches twice weekly, resulting in 1,980 freshly made sandwiches every week. These lunches play a crucial role in supporting learners who may otherwise attend school without adequate nutrition.

The sandwich programme not only helps address food insecurity but also contributes to better concentration, learning outcomes, and overall well-being for the children who receive them.

Volunteers Are the Heart of the Matthew 25 Project

The success of this programme depends heavily on volunteers, affectionately referred to as the “sarmie army”. These dedicated individuals meet every Wednesday and Friday at 09:00 to prepare lunches for the school.

With demand remaining high, the Matthew 25 Project is now appealing for additional volunteers to assist with sandwich preparation and help lighten the workload for existing team members.

No special skills are required — just time, compassion, and a willingness to help.

How to Get Involved

Community members who would like to make a difference are encouraged to get involved by volunteering their time.

Continuing a Mission of Care and Compassion

The Matthew 25 Project’s work reflects the power of community-driven initiatives to address real needs. With the continued support of volunteers, the organisation aims to sustain and grow its school lunch programme, ensuring that no child is left hungry during the school day.
